About the Teacher
To the parents of my Honors Geometry Class, hello!
My name is Kara Johnson, and I am your student's teacher for the majority of this semester.
I am a secondary education, mathematics major at Bradley University.
Student teaching at Metamora Township High School has already been an incredible experience, and I hope for this pattern to continue. I know that you may email Mrs. Miller when you have a concern or question, but feel free to contact me on here! I will be glad to respond to anything.
Since taking over the classroom, I have brought technology with me. While the room does not have a SMARTBoard, I am actively using the overhead projector, and Geometer's Sketchpad is being used on a daily basis. If you are not familiar with Geometer's Sketchpad, check it out! I am also trying to incorporate manipulatives within lessons because I am a firm believer in hands-on learning.
Mathematics is moving toward incorporating the Common Core Standards, which involves students being very active in the education process. The teacher is a facilitator of learning, and I plan to be just that for your student. What we may think of when "math class" is mentioned is definitely changing, so familiarize yourself as I implement them in the classroom.
Overall, I want your student to succeed! I am doing my best, but it may take extra effort on his/her part. Encourage your student to come in for extra help, if need be.
As I said, feel free to contact me because I would love to hear from parents.
Sincerely,
Kara Johnson
